Since age 14, Sam Brown has been a staple in Mississippi radio. Since the host of the show, Soul Train, peaked Sam’s interest in announcing, he has been on the move. He started out working at 106.3 FM WLTD in Lexington, MS, and stayed throughout his college years at Jackson State University (JSU). While at JSU he became the youngest general manager for a commercial radio station in the US. He was only 21 yrs. old!!
After graduation in 1989, Sam’s talent and experience took him to two stations in Greenwood, MS (WGNL and WVSD) where he hosted and served as station manager. He also expanded his repertoire to include Play-by-Play Sports Broadcasting for College Football and Basketball. In 1997, Sam returned to the Jackson area on WKXI FM. He is a current member of the JSU Sports Network Broadcast Team and host DJ on 99 Jams WJMI.
Sam also knows how to keep the party going! He has worked the club scene too. It seems that he’s done it all, including giving back! A 3rd Degree Black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Sam also occasionally works with kids, teaching them the Martial Arts values of discipline and commitment in achieving your goals. What are your favorite things to do? I like to ride my bike (motorcycle) and go freshwater fishing (off shore).
What’s your favorite meal? Fish and seafood with an “Arnold Palmer”. I don’t drink, so that’s a sweet tea mixed with a lemonade, for all you lushes out there!!!
What’s your secret addiction? Pawn Shops! I have to stop whenever I see one.
Have you ever been in a fist fight? In an actual fight? Uhhh, yeah …. And life isn’t the same for that person. SMH
What’s your most embarrassing moment? Uncle Luke brought his girls to the station for an interview. I complimented his entourage, and he put the girls on me LIVE ON AIR!! I was speechless!!
What’s your favorite quote? “Anything worth having is worth going through changes for”.
